Magnificent

It may come as a surprise to some that I am a big U2 fan and I have been since the 80’s! Anyway, I bought the latest album on the weekend ‘No Line On The Horizon’ and as with every U2 album – it takes a while for the album to grow on you. There is one track on there, however, that blew me away first time I heard it and just keep getting better. In my opinion ‘Magnificent’ is one of the best songs they’ve ever written, both musically and lyrically. The lyrics are absolutely dripping with the gospel and reveal a great deal about Bono’s faith and appreciation of grace. The word on the street is that it’s coming out as their next single in May which means that it’ll be all over the airways too. Buzzin!

Check out the lyrics:

Magnificent

I was born
I was born to be with you
In this space and time
After that and ever after I haven’t had a clue
Only to break rhyme
This foolishness can leave a heart black and blue

Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar

I was born
I was born to sing for you
I didn’t have a choice but to lift you up
And sing whatever song you wanted me to
I give you back my voice
From the womb my first cry, it was a joyful noise…

Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar

Justified till we die, you and I will magnify
The Magnificent
Magnificent

Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love unites our hearts

Justified till we die, you and I will magnify
The Magnificent
Magnificent
Magnificent
