Cardboard Testimonies

You may well have seen this, but I just think it’s amazing so I thought I’d post it up here anyway! It’s such a simple idea – the story of your salvation written on two sides of cardboard – who you were before you met Jesus and who you are now! I did this at a conference recently and found it incredibly helpful, humbling and inspiring.

I wonder what would your cardboard story be?

Feel free to post your comments on this one…

  1. Don’t you think it oversimplifies things a bit? I wonder sometimes if we put too much pressure on people to have a story of amazing change…
    Mine would be:
    Before: screwed up sinner.
    After: screwed up sinner.
    With little else to add.

  2. Hi Geo thanks for adding yor comment.

I think the gospel is intended to be simple and we have a tendency to over-complicate it! Take that blind guy that Jesus healed in John 9 for example. His testimony went like this:

“One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (John 9v25)

As far as he was concerned – that was all that needed to be said. I’m sorry to hear that you still feel like a screwed up sinner. However, I want to encourage you that if you have genuinely and sincerely turned to Jesus for grace and set your hope in Him, you might once have been a screwed up sinner, but in Christ you are a new creation:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he IS a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2Cor 5v17)

That’s the eternal reality of every sinner who trusts Jesus for salvation. The battle that now rages is the battle to live in the reality of that new identity – and what a battle that is! (I’m still in the thick of that one myself!) If you’re truly saved then perhaps your testimony should read:

    Before: screwed up sinner
After: saint that’s still battling with sin

If, however, you haven’t been born again (obviously I don’t know you so I’m just trying to cover all bases!) then that would explain why you still feel like a screwed up sinner! If that’s the case – you need to turn to Jesus asap. I believe that if you do – He’ll save you from your sin and make you a new person!

    God bless you mate.
