Let Your Light Shine!

Just a buzzin’ little post this morning that once again flows from the humbling, joy-filled adventure that I enjoy as a dad!

I was driving my 2 eldest kids, Elen & Josiah, to school this morning and we were all singing along to a classic Hillsong Kids track “Let your light shine” at the top of our lungs! After the song finished, an excited Elen came out with this:

Elen: “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy! Do you think they can hear us outside?”

Me: “Dunno, probably. Would it matter if they could?”

Elen: “Well, I was just thinking that if all those people out there who don’t know God but need to know about Him could hear us, then maybe they’d change their minds!!”

Me: “Woah! That’s deep babes!”

I was honestly stunned! Once again, I was receiving a lesson in grace, faith, courage, compassion and evangelistic zeal from my beautiful 4 year old missionary…I mean daughter! I just loved the simplicity of her grasp of the gospel and its implications. Surely that’s what Jesus meant when He said:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5v14-16

The best part though was when we arrived at school I got to walk up the path holding them both by the hand, with both of them passionately singing the next track on the playlist, regardless of what others thought of them:

“I lay my life down at Your feet
Cause You’re the only one I need
I turn to You and You are always there

In troubled times it’s You I seek
I put You first that’s all I need
I humble all I am all to You

One way
Jesus
You’re the only one that I could live for
One Way
Jesus
You’re the only one that I could live for”

Lord I pray that you’d bless, encourage and protect my kids as they grow up in this dark world. And would you grant me grace to demonstrate the same kind of gospel compassion and courage that I so often see in them!

Amen.
