I’m a firm believer that it’s better to be busy than bored. I’m also a man who loves to get his teeth stuck into stuff that he’s passionate about. Which is why February is looking like being a hugely exciting month on so many fronts. Please join me in get excited and also praying to God for all of this:
So February is going to be a huge month for me in an area that is SO close to my heart right now – Human Trafficking. Check it out:
On February 4th I will be working alongside Ignite as they host a screening of Nefarious: Merchant of Souls – a film that literally transformed my life last year. If you’d like to join us it’s a 7pm start at Woodville Baptist in Cardiff. (aged 18+)
EA Discussion on Human Trafficking:
On February 7th I will be joining various other church leaders, volunteers and others who are actively involved in the war against human trafficking in Wales. This strategic networking event is being hosted by the Evangelical Alliance and it’s a privilege to be invited and involved.
#NotOnMyWatch – the Event:
Taking place on February 8th at Rhiwbina Baptist Church. I can’t lie, I am BUZZIN about this! That my friends at Ignite are taking such a creative, passionate and active stance against trafficking is exciting enough…but that I’ve been asked to be the main speaker at the event is SO humbling! Essentially, #NotOnMyWatch seeks to educate young people about the issue of trafficking, empower them to take meaningful action and to be a voice for the voiceless millions who are currently suffering as slaves. PLEASE pray for this event and for all the young people who will be attending.
#NotOnMyWatch – the music video:
So the title #NotOnMyWatch really captured my imagination when I first heard it, so much so that I decided to write an abolitionist track for my forthcoming album. However, God really inspired the lyrics and I started thinking “hmmmmm, this could be good for further raising awareness, especially if it went viral!” So I asked my good mate, Andy Toovey, what it would cost to make a music video for the track. He told me. I couldn’t afford it. So I prayed. And in less than a week God had miraculously provided! So later this month I will be making a video that I hope will be used to inform and inspire a generation of young abolitionists to say NO to trafficking! Watch this space…
Finally, me and Michelle have been really stirred up to see more people praying about the issue of trafficking in Wales. Having asked around it seems that while there are many who are burdened about the issue of trafficking, there is no regular, committed prayer movement to address the issue in the heavenly realms. So we’re starting one! There will be more info coming soon, but we do know that the first prayer meeting will be 8pm Friday 15th February in Cardiff. Venue tbc.
HILL CITY CHURCH
Things are VERY encouraging at Hill City at the moment. We have transitioned to a gospel community set-up which is going great and we seem to be bursting at the seams most Sunday mornings at the moment with new faces all the time. The official launch of Foodbank at our Hope Centre (more about that very soon) is so exciting and CAP is going from strength to strength. However, here’s 2 things in particular that I’m particularly amped about:
In just a few weeks time we are hoping to be launching a brand new, high energy, gospel-focussed kids cub for the kids of Trevethin. Under the leadership of OAC evangelist, Steve Harris, and with a team of volunteers from Hill City Church and Revive, this new Wednesday night club is going to great fun and a great ministry for the kids of the estate. Again more will be posted on this in the coming weeks. Please pray for us.
The arrival of the Jones Family:
LOVING THIS ONE!! Several years ago an American guy I’d befriended on Twitter, Zac, came over to Wales with his friend, Caleb, with a view to moving to Wales to plant churches. Not long afterwards Caleb returned with his wife, Crystal. It was clear that God was drawing them to Wales to join us on a church planting adventure. To cut a long story short – it’s been a LOOOOONG and frustrating process (don’t get me started on the UK Border Agency!) but we believe that God is sovereign and His timing is perfect. So the fact that they arrive in the UK on 20th February to join us at Hill City (drum roll and trumpet fanfare please!) is a miracle, the start of an exciting chapter for the Jones’, for all of us at Hill City, and yeah – I’m BUZZIN! (Meet the Jones’ and find out more about their adventures here). Please also pray for us at Hill City as we seek to find them suitable accommodation and transportation before they arrive.
Being a part of the Acts 29 Europe network is one of the greatest privileges of my life. My A29 brothers and their families have been a MASSIVE source of encouragement to me and my family over recent years. One of the highlights of my year is always the Acts 29 Boot Camp. This year the Boot Camp is set to be doubly EPIC as not only is the main speaker (Matt Chandler) a man who I have huge respect for, but the Boot Camp itself is in my home church in Cardiff – Highfields! The BootCamp (26th-27th February) this year is called “Explicit: Making Plain the Gospel of Grace” and promises to be a great event. Tickets are selling like hot-cakes so get yours here.
On Tuesday 26th February at the Explicit boot camp we are officially launching Valley Commandos. Valley Commandos is a courageous initiative to see gospel-centred churches planted across the Welsh valleys and is a partnership between Acts 29 Europe, WEST, Highfields Church, Mount Pleasant Church and Sarang Community Church. More will be released about VC in the near future, including a new promotional video that will be profiled at Explicit. As many of you will know the need to see gospel-preaching, Christ honouring churches planted across the Welsh valleys is an urgent burden that I have been carrying for years! Valley Commandos, at least in part, is part of seeing the dream become reality. As well as Hill City Church’s vision to reach the Eastern Valley, it’s great to hear of Mount Pleasant planting a church in Neath (first service is this weekend) and I’m already being inundated with church planters getting in touch asking for assistance in planting, as well as struggling churches asking for assistance. These are exciting, daunting times. Please pray for Valley Commandos as the vision expands and Kingdom expands across the valleys!
So yeah, February looks EPIC!
Bring it on…
